Waukegan High School’s JROTC program remains one of the top programs in the nation following the results of the Bulldog Regiment’s recent formal inspection.

WHS’s nationally-ranked program earned “Honor Unit with Gold Star Distinction,” which is the highest standing a JROTC Program can receive. The unit earned a 98.25 out of 100 points possible, and has held this status since 1992.

The formal inspection covers every facet of the JROTC program, including its work in the classroom, the school and community.  The inspection was conducted by officials from the Third ROTC Brigade at Great Lakes, as well as recruiters from the Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps.

“Cadets began to prepare in September for the big day,  and intensified their focus in January and February,” said WHS Senior Army Instructor, Lieutenant Colonel Ronald Painter. “I am very proud of the cadets, our Commander, Cadet Colonel Krystal Hernandez, as well as her commanders and staff set the example and the cadets did a superb job in all areas.”
