Dear Grades 6-12 Families,
In recent weeks our District has seen several instances of middle school and high school students creating and/or sharing inappropriate, and sometimes illegal photos, videos or images for dissemination via email, text and on social media. In some instances these actions have resulted in law enforcement being contacted to conduct investigations.
These types of situations are not unique to our community and unfortunately, they are becoming more problematic among adolescent students. It is important that students know that they may face consequences with law enforcement and at school if they are found to be distributing or participating in videos, photos or images depicting illegal or inappropriate behavior.
Our schools work to educate students on responsible Internet and social media usage, by examining how to create and maintain positive digital footprints. We also ask that you, as parents and guardians, please take time to discuss the importance of appropriate online behavior. As a parent you’re encouraged to monitor your child’s cell phone usage and online presence.
It is important that adolescents understand that the split-second decisions they make when sharing information or photos through text message, the Internet or social media will be captured for a lifetime, and those poor decisions can follow them for years to come.

Estimadas Familias de los Grados 6-12,
En las últimas semanas, nuestro Distrito ha visto varios casos de estudiantes de la escuela intermedia y secundaria que crean y/o comparten fotos, videos o imágenes inapropiadas y, a veces, ilegales para su difusión a través de correo electrónico, texto y redes sociales. En algunos casos, estas acciones han resultado en que se contacte a los oficiales de la ley para llevar a cabo investigaciones.
Este tipo de situaciones no son exclusivas a nuestra comunidad y, lamentablemente, se están volviendo más problemáticas entre los estudiantes adolescentes. Es importante que los estudiantes sepan que pueden enfrentar consecuencias con los oficiales de la ley y en la escuela si se descubre que están distribuyendo o participando en videos, fotos o imágenes que representan un comportamiento ilegal o inapropiado.
Nuestras escuelas trabajan para educar a los estudiantes sobre el uso responsable de Internet y las redes sociales, examinando cómo crear y mantener huellas digitales positivas. También les pedimos a ustedes, como padres y tutores, que por favor se tomen un tiempo para analizar la importancia de un comportamiento en línea apropiado. Como padre/madre, le alentamos a que supervise el uso del teléfono celular y la presencia en línea de su hijo(a).
Es importante que los adolescentes entiendan que las decisiones que toman en un segundo al compartir información o fotos a través de mensajes de texto, Internet o las redes sociales quedarán registradas para toda la vida, y esas malas decisiones pueden seguirlos durante muchos años.
